Some (Very) Early Morning Runs: Training Log (Feb 18-24, 2024)
I enjoyed this past week. I finished the third and final week of my training bloc. I ran roughly 100KM. I slept a bit less than usual, but my resting heart rate stayed around 38 BPM.
The previous week’s mileage was roughly 130 KM. I wanted to decrease my weekly mileage to 100KM before I periodize next week and cut my running volume by roughly half.
Part of this past week’s challenge was waking up very early. I woke up around 4:15-4:30 AM most days. One day, I woke up around 2:30 AM. But I was wide awake and felt fine. So, I drank some coffee, wrote in my journal, stretched, and went on a solid run. It was enjoyable, and I finished before the sun rose. This type of schedule means that I spend a lot of time alone, running in the dark with a headlamp. But I enjoy the solitude and opportunity for introspection that comes with very early morning runs.
I want to keep my weekly mileage around 100-120 KM for the month of March, 2024. It is a busy month and I have many commitments related to teaching, writing, administration, and more. I hope to increase my mileage in April once things settle down a bit. My goal is to hit 150 KM of weekly mileage over the summer. One step at a time!
