Training Log: August 2023 Recovery Week

Every fourth week of my training cycle is a recovery week. I drop my normal mileage by roughly 60-70% during a recovery week so that my body can adapt to greater training loads. I usually walk a lot, lift weights, or bike or swim more during these weeks. I don’t usually do double runs. I try to sleep 8 hours or more per night to recover.

I find that recovery weeks have been quite helpful to prevent overtraining and injuries. The more I train, the more I realize how much time it takes to recover from higher mileage training weeks.

Last month’s training bloc was mostly Zone 2 training to build volume.

This coming training cycle, my plan is to maintain 110-120 KM/week training weeks, but also add one or two threshold sessions per week to build my V02 max.
